  2. appear用作系動詞,接“to be+ n./adj. ” 或者介詞短語、動詞不定式或as if/though引導的從句, to be可以省略。
  5. appear可用于存在句型(There ~s/ ~ed ),相當于不及物動詞be。
  1. appear

I have read the article on Japanese economy appeared in yesterday's paper.

He appears (to be) very angry today.(句中的to be可省略)
She appears to have enough money to live on.

The baby seems/appears (to be) hungry.(兩者都可用)
She doesn't want to go on studying. It seems a pity.(只能用seem)

  3. appear

She suddenly appeared in the doorway.

appear, look, seem
  • He appears to be very young.
  • He looks to be very young.
  • He seems to be very young.
It appears〔appeared〕/looks〔looked〕/seems〔seemed〕 as if...結構。但是, appear 和seem跟to- v 時仍表示“看起來”,而look 接to- v 則是“盼望”的意思。例如:
  • He appears〔seems〕 to know it.
  • He looks to hear from you.
It appears〔appeared〕/seems〔seemed〕 that...
It looks to me that he enjoys read- ing the novel.
  • [正] It appears〔seems〕 to me that he enjoys reading the novel.
  • You are looking〔look〕 very unhappy.
  • appear, emerge, loom
  • appear,emerge,show,loom
  • appear,look,seem

He often appeared unexpected and invited himself to lunch.

He often appeared unexpectedly and invited himself to lunch.

There appeared before his eyes a busy scene of autumn harvesting.
